How Old Are You? Never A Limitation!

How Old Are You? Never A Limitation!

A Turn in the road is not the end of the road……. Unless you fail to make a turn
                                                                                                            - John Capozzi

Now and now specifically is the best and appropriate time for you to take a U-Turn and possess what life has in stock for you.
It does not matter how old you are; How many years you have spent on earth; How many years left in life for you to possibly spend, and how long you have tried. What matter most now is your Stand Up and Drive on (SUDO) Action.

All you need do is just do all you need to do. Keep moving until you reach there, you are not yet there until you get there. What I am trying to let you understand is that you have to reinvent yourself.

A beautiful example of someone who reinvented himself is George Foreman, who holds the record for being the oldest person to ever become the heavyweight champion of the world.
George Foreman grew up in Houston, Texas. During his teen years he was a big, wayward kid who became a boxer to keep out of trouble. He made the Olympic boxing squad of 1968 and won the heavyweight gold medal. He began a professional career in 1969 as a big tough fighter who never smiled and had little personality. He dominated everyone he fought. He won the heavyweight title in 1973 by knocking out Joe Frazier. After that fight he was considered invincible.

However, in 1974 he fought Muhammad Ali in Zaire. And in a daring strategic move, Ali used a new tactic called “the rope-a-dope strategy” to win the fight. It was George Foreman’s first defeat; and he was devastated! He then went from bad to worse by loosing another fight to a little-known fighter named jimmy Young. This was a major setback in the dressing room after that fight, George started acting strange and his trainer thought he was delirious, but George said he was having a religious experience. That night he quit boxing and decided to become a preacher. His boxing career was considered dead, and George Foreman was considered history; but he was not through making history.

George went back to Houston and started a church and youth center. Ten years later, after using all his own funds, he realized he needed money to keep the youth center alive, so he decided to go back into the ring. When he started this time, he was a changed person, a new person. He had reinvented himself. When he retires from boxing, his had been a mean, sulking, no communicative guy who just wanted to fight. When he came back he had been transformed, he was a new person. He was friendly, enthusiastic, fun loving, funny, and loved to talk.

His first fight after his comeback was in March 1987. He won that fight and kept going. He fought numerous times and won each time. He also was scoring a knockout punch with his new media image. He was quickly becoming one America’s favorite personalities and most popular commercial pitchmen. He sold everything from hamburgers to mufflers, and people loved everything he did. He won fight, after fight, after fight! In 1991, George lost a very hard fight to Evander Holyfield and many said that would be the end of the story for sure.

He was over forty and overweight. All of the commentators recommended that George quit……….. He was just too old; but George had other ideas. He continued to fight and in November 1994 George startled the world. At the age of forty-five he won the heavyweight title of the world!

Not only did George win the title, but also became one of America’s most popular television personalities and product endorsers. He had made history as the oldest heavyweight champion ever! He has gone on to become a bestselling author, host of his own television show, and a high-demand public speaker. George Foreman is a man who reinvented himself and in doing so turned his pain to gain, shame to fame…….

Another outstanding example is the old Fatai Rolling Dollar the Nigeria musician that sang “won kere si number wa”. He never stopped battling until he was a victor and became popular home and abroad. According to his stage name he refused never to stop rolling and continued rolling till he died not quite long but his works lives on, he did his best at an old age to let the world know that even at an old age we can still re-invent ourselves and do great exploit. I suggest that you consistently reinvent yourself and constantly stretch and grow. No matter how old you are. There is still a lot in you that are yet untapped and undiscovered. Keep seeking a new and improved you. There’s a lot that you have left to discover. Seek it and you will find an improved you!
