The Independent National Electoral Commission has discovered new
settlements in Zamfara, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the
state, Alhaji Jibril Zarewa, said.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Gusau that the
commission had begun arrangements “to capture the people in the
settlements in its data base.”
Zarewa, who did not mention the number of the settlements, noted that
“it is too early to conclude on the number of newly discovered
settlements in the state.”
He, however, said INEC had embarked on the review of all existing
settlements in the state ahead of the 2015 general elections in the
country.
He added, “The review is part of the commission’s mandate. The
commission will also partner with the National Boundary Commission and
Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to ensure full
coverage.
“We want to ensure that all communities and settlements are captured
in the commission’s data base to ensure that no one is left out during
the elections.”
The resident electoral commissioner gave the assurance that all
issues relating to the new settlements and voter registration would be
completed before the 2015 polls.
