The 2004 and 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year Award winner paid a hefty fee, reportedly £36,000 ($57,718) to have his teeth realigned, gums altered and porcelain caps put on his teeth.
He declined the corrective surgery for years, saying his buck-toothed grin was how millions of fans around the world identified him. It was either the toothy smile or silky soccer skills (and ridiculous goals) that made him a world soccer icon for the last decade.
