Kanye West and Kim Kardashian may be bad influences
according to President Barack Obama. During a visit to Amazon's warehouses in
Tennessee Monday (August 5), the Commander-in-Chief criticized the reality
starlet and her rapper beau for influencing a generation of youngsters to be
obsessed with wealth and celebrity.
"The American dream involved some pretty basic
stuff, a good job where you felt some security, a good education," O said
in an interview with Kindle Singles. "People felt if they worked hard they
could get there, I don't think people went around saying to themselves, 'I need
to have a 10,000-square-foot house' ... I think there has also been a shift in
culture. We weren't exposed to the things we didn't have in the same way that
kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and
famous. Kids weren't monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or
where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the
mark of success."
This wouldn't be the first time the Prez has name-dropped
his fellow Chi-town rep. In an April 2012 interview with the Atlantic, Barack
opted for Hov over Yeezus. “Although I like Kanye... He’s a Chicago guy. Smart.
He’s very talented," he said. The interviewer than asked, “Even though you
called him a jackass?” Obama responded with, “He is a jackass...But he’s
talented.”
